A 20 year old woman who gave birth to a son and her partner were both detained by the police in Ebonyi for selling their child to a maternity home owner for N500,000.
Police sources claim that Jonah Ogbuagu, a bricklayer, impregnated Ola China, 20, of Amangwu Edda in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi, in August 2021. In April 2022, Ola gave birth to the child in Obigbo, Rivers, where she had been staying at her aunt’s house throughout the pregnancy. After giving birth, she and Ogbuagu plotted to sell the child.
According to SP Chris Anyanwu, a spokesperson for the state police command, who confirmed the event to reporters, “Mummy Abigail,” a pregnant homeowner, was detained in Ovima, which is part of the Afikpo North Local Government Area.
He added that police in Ebonyi also arrested a two-man syndicate of child traffickers, who specialize in stealing, abducting, kidnapping, and selling children.
Anyawu gave their details as Otuu Chizaram, 24, from Ndukwe Akpoha and Agbi Precious, 20, of Evuma Road both in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi. He said they have all confessed to committing the crime.
