Idowu Daniel, a 31-year-old instructor, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old student and was sentenced to seven years in prison by an Ikeja Special Offenses Court.
On Monday, September 19, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo issued a decision in the case and stated that the accusation of child defilement against the defendant had not been proven by the prosecution. However, this was because the survivor neglected to appear in court during the trial to provide a testimony.
The defendant acknowledged to fondling the victim’s breast twice and trying to have sex with her, but was unable to penetrate her since she was a virgin, according to Justice Taiwo, who remarked that the defendant’s voluntary confessional statement revealed that he sexually abused the youngster.
Taiwo said;
“The defendant is hereby convicted on the charge of sexual assault of a child.
“You are a teacher and you were touching the breast of your student. You would have gone for life if the victim had come to court to testify.”
